Marriage Awakening - Date Night

Not too long ago we became acquainted with a really great church in Branson, MO.  One of the reasons we have such a great respect for that church is that the cornerstone of the vision for their church includes holding marriage in high regard.  Every month they dedicate the second Sunday to be a marriage service held throughout their entire church where they bring attention of what God says about marriage.  What they are doing, I believes fulfills  what is said in part by:

Hebrews 13:4, “Marriage should be honored by all…”

Of course imitation is the highest form of flattery, so we have brought a few of those concepts that they have implemented back to our home church as well.  If you read through Proverbs 5 you will see an instructional list of how you can protect against adultery.  I really enjoy when you get to about verse 18 where it begins:

Proverbs 5:18, “May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth.”

The bible must be on to something here.  Now I know it doesn’t say to specifically date your spouse in the bible, but that is one way we can rejoice in the spouse of our youth.  Isn’t that exactly what we did before we got married, dated our spouse in the youth of our marriage?  What about this scripture:

Ecclesiastes 9:9  Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love, all the days of this meaningless life that God has given you under the sun—all your meaningless days. For this is your lot in life and in your toilsome labor under the sun.

Life is too short not to enjoy life with our spouses whom we love.  God has given us a great gift in our spouse and I think sometimes we get caught up in the toils of life that we forget to take the time to date our spouses again like we did in our youth.  We need to create an environment where we can love one another again in an atmosphere of fun and safety, and we need to do this often.  This is why we think committing to a regular date night for married couples is essential for building a lasting and loving relationship with our spouses.

So, get out there couples and start dating each other again.  It is a great way to re-connect and have fun with one another like you did when you first met.  Don’t let distractions in life get in the way, like being too busy with this or that.  Even money can be used as an excuse if you let it.  You don’t need money to have movie date night at home, but be sure to make it fun and special.  Here’s a tip for the guys…be sure to let the girl pick the movie that night.
